According to Finance & Markets latest LNG consumer consumption analysis, worldwide consumption grew by over 30 million metric tons last year alone. An increase of 11.4%, bringing the total world consumption of LNG last year to a staggering 295 million tons of natural gas and other light natural gas derivatives. Growth was also exceedingly strong in Asia, as the continent's demand rose by over 17 million tons year over year compared to 2016.

"In Asia alone, demand rose by 17 million tons. That's nearly as much as Indonesia, the world's fifth-largest LNG exporter, produced in 2017," Maarten Wetselaar, Shell's director for Integrated Gas and New Energies exclaimed.

Although Japan continues to be the regions most influential consumer of LNG, as China continues its push forward in order to rival the US for industrial dominance, supply will only become more strained. And while this strain will negatively impact consumers in the form of higher prices, investors stand to profit handsomely by investing early and providing much-needed liquidity for further LNG exploration in the Eastern Asia region.

What this means for investors is an opportunity to further capitalize on worldwide trends, as the Trump administration's commitment to bringing coal and other fossil fuels back online to combat increasing energy prices at home will further fuel LNG demand. Light natural gas demand however, unlike other oil based commodities, is highly cyclical. And investors who are prepared to invest now as the spring approaches stand to position themselves handsomely to reap a healthy return next winter as LNG demand always rises during the colder months of the year.
